About me
I am originally from Mauritius, an island off the east coast of Africa. I received my doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology as well as my Masters in Counseling and Counselor Education and Specialist in Education degrees from Indiana University in Bloomington. Prior to this, I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Western Australia. As part of my graduate training, I completed several practicums and internships in various clinical settings such as community mental health, inpatient psychiatric facility, eating disorder clinic, and several university counseling centers including an american psychological association (APA) accredited internship at The Ohio State University Counseling and Consultation Services in Columbus, Ohio. Prior to starting my private practice in Bloomington, Indiana I was the director and coordinator of training of Counseling Services at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana for four years and supervised several doctoral practicum students during that time.
My approach to therapy focuses on the therapeutic relationship which I perceive as the most important factor for change to happen. I use interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT), cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) in my work. My primary area of interest is working with college students and young professionals in their early 20s to late 40s who may be experiencing difficulties dealing with the various roles, responsibilities, life stressors, and transitions that come with this particular age group and stages of life.
My professional interests include working with individuals who have experience traumatic events, grief and loss, depression and anxiety, family of origin issues, international students/professionals and individuals struggling with disordered eating patterns. My first language is French and I can also offer psychotherapy in French if needed. My goal as your therapist is to provide a safe space where you feel valued, supported, and challenged to take action towards achieving your goals. My ideal client is someone who is willing to work collaboratively with me and is open to making necessary changes to address their concerns, gain insight, and take steps to reach their goals.
